Enabling Passthough Authentication in Firefox

Firefox can be configured to use your Windows login credentials taunch Firefoxo authenticate to SharePoint automatically.  This capability is built in on Microsoft Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, so if you want this capability and do not want to mess with your browser settings, use one of those browsers with SharePoint.  ETS recommends the use of Internet Explorer with SharePoint for best compatibility with all SharePoint features.

Launch Firefox.  One the browser starts, enter "about:config" in the browser address bar:

You will be warned that changing settings migh "void your warranty".  This is the Mozilla Foundation idea of a joke.  Click "I'll be careful..." to continue:

In the "search" field, enter "ntlm-auth" to narrow down the settings that are displayed, then press "enter".  Double-click the Preference named "network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris".  Enter in the "Enter string value" dialog, then click OK:

When you are done, the updated Preference will be displayed in bold text:


When you next visit your SharePoint site, click the "Sign In" link in the top-right of the page.  You should be logged on to SharePoint automatically without having to re-enter your username and password:
