It seems to be necessary to run this installed on Dell Latitude D630 and D830 systems if you want audio to be functional following Vista setup. The Vista setup process does detect and install the Sigmatel audio drivers that have been imported into BDD, but audio refuses to function without also running this application.
This stands in contrast to the Latitude D620/D820 where audio functions quite nicely out-of-box, but goes belly-up if you run Dell's Sigmatel Audio installer application.
PJP: I've just noticed that the D820 is actually behaving the same as the Dx30 systems. After a LightTouch deployment (2007-07-09) of the Business version of Vista, I had no working audio. I downloaded the driver from Dell, and that seemed to have solved the issue. However, after a sysprep and reload of the image onto a D620, the same thing was happening -- no audio.
It looks as though the install routine for Vista is again favoring the Microsoft drivers over drivers imported for the device. I
